Bridges The Bridges programs is an intensive, individualized educational program for students on the autism spectrum.Our Bridges program is designed to meet the needs of students preschool through grade 6 and is located at the Botelle School in Norfolk.
FLEX The Flex program is a self-contained classroom serving students with a behavior and/or emotional problem.Flex employs a separate middle school curriculum that parallels the regular curriculum with the purpose of developing those skills necessary for success in the mainstream classroom.Flex is located at Northwestern Regional #7 middle school and is for students aged 12 to 15.
LINKS Links is a self-contained classroom for students on the autism spectrum and/or with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.Students often are multiply handicapped with needs in the social, motor, communication, and learning spheres. Our Links program serves children in grades 7 to 12 and is located on the Northwestern Regional #7 campus.
Highlander Transition Academy HTA is a transition program for students 18 to 21 years of age. Currently, we have programs located on the UCONN campus in Torrington and a second campus located at Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted.Students receive a variety of vocational, recreational, social, cultural, and independent living activities and experiences.
AIM AIM is a program for students 14 to 18 years of age located at Northwestern Regional #7 high school.The program is tailored for students with mild intellectual disabilities with secondary learning impairments.We provide a sequential schedule of self-contained classes to meet learning needs and prepare students for success after graduation.A strong emphasis is placed on pre-vocational and vocational skills.
STEP Step is a high school program for general and special education students whose special situation and/or needs require an alternative educational or supplemental after school program.
SHARED SERVICES INTEGRATED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM (SSIPP)
The SSIPP is an integrated preschool program serving the needs of children ages 3 to 5 in the towns of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Hartland and Norfolk. The program is located at the Barkhamsted School and follows the Barkhamsted School calendar.
A screening is being offered on March 6, 2012, and March 7, 2012, for parents who have concerns regarding their child’s development. The screening process helps to identify children who may need intervention to perform successfully in school. Identified children will qualify to become a participant in the Shared Services Preschool Program.
Parents who are interested in having their child attend Shared Services Integrated Preschool Program as a role model may also submit their child’s name at this time. In the event that there are more applicants than slots a lottery will be held.
To be eligible for the program, children must live in Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Hartland, or Norfolk; be age 3 by September 1; and must have attended the screening. The lottery will be held on March 9, 2012, and parents will be notified of lottery results by March 12, 2012.
Please call the Preschool Program, before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m. at 379-2729 ext. 7 to schedule a screening for your child. Applications for the preschool program will be available at the screening. In order to enter the lottery for available preschool slots, children must participate in the screening process.
